We open in Nashville, Tennessee, where our story takes place. Ten race cars can be seen. Drivers are getting ready for today’s big race. One is Car 27 with Jarad Higgins, our protagonist.
Jarad: {Narrating} Well, there I am. Jarad Anthony Higgins, racer and legend. I’ve won multiple races in my career. I’ve gotten multiple sponsorships, too, from some of the biggest companies in the world. But this is the biggest race of my career: The Death Race for Love.
How did I get here? Come closer, and I’ll tell you. It all started on a day when I felt Empty.
{The scene cuts to Jarad, sulking at a bar when his phone rings.}
Jarad: Hello? {He’s talking to a girl.} Oh! Hi, Ally! Listen: I’m gonna be a little bit late tonight. I was feeling empty, and I figured me and the guys would stop at the bar to get us some drinks. Anyway, I’ll see you later. Love you.
{The phone call ends.}
Bartender: What’ll it be?
Jarad: Scotch, single malt. No ice.
{A few hours later Jarad is stumbling out as Empty by Juice Wrld plays.}
Jarad: See, you guys! Now I’ve got to go home and get some sleep. Big race tomorrow. The Death Race For Love.
{Jarad is walking home, when his rival, Dark Wrld, nears with a baseball bat.}
Dark Wrld: Not today, Jarad!
{He knocks Jarad unconscious with the baseball bat.}
Dark Wrld:: The Death Race For Love win is as good as mine!
{Jarad is lying unconscious.
