Good Move: RowdyRogan Banned from Playing ‘Call of Duty: Warzone’

,

eSports needs to uphold age restrictions for players. RowdyRogan is an example.

eSports are getting plenty of traction. Games are featured on ESPN and are being played extensively at the collegiate level. But eSports needs to restrict kids from playing adult-level eSports offerings.

So it’s not surprising that push came to shove this week. A six-year-old eSports protege, RowdyRogan, was banned from Call of Duty, WarZone during a live-stream event. The game is designed for age 13+.

Rogan, a finalist in the FaZe Clan membership competition, is getting national attention because of his eSports skills. He has 120k+ subscribers on YouTube.

Despite the fact that Rogan was upset about being banned, I think Ubisoft–the company that makes Call of Duty–did the proper thing. The reason is straightforward: the game is rated ‘M’ for Mature.

Let’s hold the line as eSports evolves. Kids shouldn’t be playing games designed for adults.
