The 2020 Dallas Cowboys have been an emotional roller coaster (to say the least). From COVID-19 to the gruesome injury suffered by starting quarterback Dak Prescott, it has been a nightmare season.
The Cowboys currently sit 3-8–last place in the horrendous NFC East. That’s a shock for a team that went into 2020 with high expectations.
But it didn’t take long to see how this year would turn out.
Sounds like a bad football team. Huh? Well, it is! And add to that mix issues with first-year defensive coordinator Mike Nolan. It didn’t take long for whispering to emerge about Nolan’s coaching acumen. But Nolan wasn’t the only coach on the hot seat.
In Week 5 against the Giants, OC Kellen Moore called a QB draw with about 6:30 left in the 3rd quarter. Dak Prescott found a running lane and attempted to stiff-arm a defender. But Giants’ corner Logan Ryan made Prescott pay, in spades, by inflicting what would become a season-ending compound fracture injury.
Dallas went on to win that game, but they exited the field, knowing 2020 would be a lost season.
Since then, the Cowboys have managed to win just one game, including that embarrassing Thanksgiving day loss to the Washington Football Team–a loss that was filled with questionable coaching calls.
What’s it all mean for the new head man, Mike McCarthy? While it’s easy to argue that it’s impossible to make a complete and proper assessment because of how things have turned out, it’s also fair to say that, at day’s end, NFL football isn’t a ‘feel sorry for me’ business. McCarthy has a lot to prove.
For fans, the first order of business is obvious: it’s for this nightmare to end.
