Maradona Was A Soccer Legend

,

Diego Maradona passed away this week from a heart attack. He was 60 years old.

Playing for Argentina’s prestigious soccer team, among many others, and leading Argentina to a win at the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, Maradona is highly regarded as one of the greatest soccer players of all time.

Maradona also was an acclaimed soccer coach, starting his coaching career in 2008 with Argentina’s national soccer team. He coached the 2010 World Cup team with Argentina in South Africa before leaving at the end of the tournament. Afterward, he coached with Dubai’s soccer club for the 2011-12 season. He also coached teams for Mexico and the United Arab Emirates, among many others.

But his life wasn’t all good. In 1991 and 1994, Maradona was kicked out of soccer for drug abuse. El Pibe de Oro (as he was called) was also obese, packing on 280 pounds and being admitted to the hospital multiple times. But Maradona still triumphed in the sports world and was honored with the 2002 Goal of The Century award for a goal called ‘The Hand of God.’

RIP El Pibe de Oro. You will always be a soccer legend.
