Why Politics and Sports Don’t Mix

,

Let’s focus on the games.

Today, a lot of people are ‘thinking’ through their feelings, and it shows in what they say and how they act. Sports, on the other hand, symbolize the quest for excellence and teach you about life. What we often see on Facebook and in the press isn’t about excellence and it’s not teaching us lessons about life.

The same thing can happen when we mix politics and sports. There’s a time and place for politics just as there is a time and place for sports. Neither enterprise is the same when the two are mixed.

Sports teaches you the importance of strategy. It also teaches you about the importance of teamwork. And sports are often experienced as a family affair. All three are important in life–strategy, teamwork, and family. We very much need to upshift all three in America today.

That’s important in a world that seems to be tearing apart. Today we need to be together, and sports can help.
