Rana will help promote and advance traditional sports and games worldwide.
Shammi Rana
Mr. Shammi Rana has been appointed Secretary-General for the International Council of Traditional Sports and Games (ICTSG). The Council is the official umbrella organization for all Traditional Sports and Indigenous Games, as well as organizers of traditional-sports games and sport-related international associations. The ICTSG helps all concerned and interested governmental and non-governmental national, regional, and international organizations.
Mr. Rana brings considerable experience to the position. For more than 20 years, he has worked with officials to promote political, social, and diplomatic relations in conjunction with traditional sports. Among many issues are the need to protect these sports from commercializing cultural heritage and values, and to promote tolerance, mutual understanding, respect, and peace in a culturally diverse society.
Shammi Rana: Traditional sports and games can be modernized and adapted according to the needs of the living generation without affecting their originality.
Ranni will be charged with advancing UNESCO efforts to safeguard, promote, and develop TSG, and to ensure that they form an integral part of national and international cultural development.
