There won’t be a U.S. Open for Surfing this year.
For every sport we gain during the pandemic, another is taken away. On Monday, officials called off one of the most significant events of the sport of surfing, The U.S. Open of Surfing. “The Vans U.S. Open of Surfing has always been about bringing people together in a healthy, fun and interactive environment, and given the size and scale of the event, we can’t see a way to do that this year without sacrificing the very thing that makes it so special,” Jennifer Lau, Vice President of Action Sports at IMG, told the LA Times.
So instead of surfing, let’s remember what would have been with songs.
Surfin USA, Beach Boys: The Beach Boys are the most iconic surfing music band of all time.
Trollz, Tekashi 6ix9ine and Nicki Minaj: While this song is awful (mainly because of Tekashi’s dolphin noises), the beat is perfect for surfing.
Go!, The Kid Laroi and Juice Wrld: This song has a beat like a surfer riding the waves.
Bloody Valentine, Machine Gun Kelly: It’s another genuinely good rock song for surfing.
Tell Me You Love Me, Juice Wrld and Trippie Redd: Reminiscent of an XXXTentacion song, this song has a great reggae beat for surfing.
Need You Now, Lady Antebellum: Now known as ‘Lady A,’ this country group recorded a song with energy for sports.
Tommy Lee, Tyla Yahweh, and Post Malone: If you think this song is good, just wait until Tommy Lee of Motley Crue remixes it with his drumming skills.
Over Now, Post Malone and Tommy Lee: This song is perfect for checking out wipeouts.
Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites– Skrillex: EDM and techno are always great for sports.
Make It Rain, Pop Smoke: Pop’s legacy will be exhibited in his new album, out in July. For now, this song is perfect for surfing.
Gucci Flip-Flops, Bhad Bhabie: This might be the best surfing song ever.
