Earlier this week, rapper Pop Smoke was murdered during a residential break-in.
On Wednesday, rapper Pop Smoke was assassinated in his Hollywood Hills mansion by four armed men in masks. He was 20 years old. His song, Welcome To The Party, earned critical acclaim.
Smoke’s death wasn’t rap music’s first rodeo with tragedy. XXXTentacion, Nipsey Hussle, Lil Snupe, Jimmy Wopo, Tupac, Notorious BIG, and so many other young and talented rappers have been murdered, many of whom have a connection to sports.
To stop it, we–the fans–need to speak out against gun violence in rap. A documentary film needs to be produced to raise awareness and curb the number of young men who end up dying needlessly.
For now, RIP, Pop Smoke! Let his story be a lesson to all.
TSC’s Jason Feirman: So many music industry stars have been murdered in recent memory. And for what? Social media has played a role in this. But the bottom line is people who have guns can be dangerous. When someone feels threatened, they become dangerous as well. If we simply showed pictures of the diseased with their obituaries that would go a long way. A picture is worth a thousand words.
