Former Mississippi State star was found dead in a suspected homicide.
We know the names of many football stars because they’ve gone on to do great things on the gridiron. But there are potential stars who never get a chance to excel. Their lives were taken by violence.
A recent example is former Mississippi State wide receiver, De’Runnya Wilson, who was killed recently at just 25 years of age. Just last week, January 20th, 2020, Wilson’s body was found by a family member in a death that’s being investigated as a possible murder. Wilson was only 25 years of age.
Born in Birmingham, Alabama, Wilson’s athletic career began as a basketball player, where he was named a Parade All-America player. In his senior year, he decided to give football a try and achieved great success. A wide receive3r, Wilson caught over 30 passes for 680 yards, leading his high school team to a 10-2 season.
Now a star in two sports, Wilson was courted by many colleges, settling on Mississippi State as the place where he’d pursue his college career. He starred there over a three-year career, catching over 130 passes for nearly 2000 yards and 22 touchdowns.
With his life cut short, we’ll never know how good Wilson could have been as a pro. Would he be playing today in the NFL? Would he be coaching?
We’ll never know the answers to questions like these unless and until this senseless violence comes to an end. I vote for ASAP!
