Music and sports go together for members of this boy band.
British boy band, One Direction, is well known for hits, like What Makes You Beautiful, Live While We’re Young, One Thing, Perfect, Drag Me Down, Steal My Girl, and History. Those hits put One Direction on the map as one of the biggest boy bands in the world, alongside N’Sync and Backstreet Boys.
Now on hiatus, all five members of ‘1D’ (as they’re called) have gone on to pursue successful solo careers.
Each member has a taste in sports.
Harry Styles: Singer Styles loves soccer. Long before he made it big in music, Styles played for the Holmes Chapel Hurricanes football team. Styles wasn’t the greatest soccer player, though. “The day I put him in goal,” coach Chris Rogers said, “we lost the game, 8-0.”
Liam Payne: Payne is a runner. Before music fame, Payne was on the Wolverhampton and Bilston Athletics Club cross-country teams. He was even considered for the 2012 Olympics but didn’t make the team.
Niall Horan: Horan’s sport is golf. He even started a golf management company, Modest! Horan has been involved in multiple golfing events and tournaments.
Louis Tomlinson: Tomlinson, like Styles, loves soccer. In 2013, he played play in a charity tournament with the Doncaster Rovers.
Zayn Malik: Past member Malik has multiple sports interests, including go-kart racing, ice skating, BMX, basketball, and soccer. Rumors are that he thought at one time about taking up boxing.
