Sports are more than about winning and losing.
What makes an athlete an athlete? The answer is tough, but really anyone can be an athlete. Throughout the years, some youth stick with sports because that’s what’s expected of them or they play because they really love the game they’re playing. Some athletes are talented and will go far in their chosen sport. Some aren’t talented but love playing and being part of a team.
The moment you put on a uniform–no matter if you’re age seven or eighteen–you a part of something bigger than self, representing more than a team–a school, an organization, a community, a state. You have big shoes to fill as today’s representative of a long line of those who went before.
When you win, everyone feels great. When you lose, people are sad. No matter what the outcome, there is another game and another day.
Under the lights, memories are made. Some are great, and some are not. No matter the outcome, you get to the destination through hours spent on the practice field.
And the great thing about sports is that you’ll learn things that apply throughout a lifetime. How to perfect a task is one. How to be the best you can be is another. Hard work. Dedication. Team play. Picking yourself up after a loss. Learning not to gloat after a win.
Sports are more than about winning and losing.
