Kyrie makes history in his first game as a Net.
The T’Wolves snatched a win in OT Wednesday night to spoil Kyrie Irving’s stellar, history-making, 50-point debut with the Brooklyn Nets.
The Nets had a 12-point deficit to overcome in the second half, but Brooklyn caught the Wolves with a 17+-points outburst in the third. In the fourth, Andrew Wiggins hit a clutch shot, and then Karl Anthony-Towns and Irving each knocked down threes to knot the score at 115-115 at the end of regulation. Each team had a chance to win before OT, including the Nets’ Jarrett Allen, who missed two free throws. Minnesota took the game, 127-126, as Wiggins dominated OT.
But the big story of the game was Kyrie’s play. The former Duke guard shot 90% from the line without committing a turnover. He also had eight rebounds and seven assists. Irving made NBA history, too: his 50-point outburst was the highest ever for a player making a team debut.
If Wednesday’s game is any indication of things to come, then those who doubted Irving’s acquisition will be on the wrong side of history.
With Irving on offense, and Jordan and Allen on defense, the Nets will only get better. And think about next year when Kevin Durant joins the team!
