Billy Ray Cyrus Traded Baseball for “Old Town Road”

,

We might have seen Cyrus in the major leagues.

Singer Billy Ray Cyrus is well known for hits like Achy Breaky Heart, Old Town Road with Lil Nas X, the remixed version of Wouldn’t You Do This for Me with Young Thug and Mason Ramsey, and She’s Not Crying Anymore.

Cyrus is also known for being the father of Miley and Noah Cyrus, his acting roles on Still The King, Hannah Montana, and the country drama, Like A Country Song. He set a Billboard record this year with Old Town Road, which spent 19 weeks on the top of the Billboard Hot 100, and has been nominated for a CMA for Best Country Event.

But before Cyrus produced Achy Breaky Heart and Old Town Road, he was on his way to becoming a baseball star. Cyrus started on his high school baseball team in Kentucky and received a baseball scholarship to play at Georgetown (KY) College.

But after attending a Neil Diamond concert, Cyrus’ attention turned to music. He left Georgetown and traded his baseball bat and mitt for a guitar and formed a rock group.

Still a fan of the game, Cyrus campaigned recently to get Pete Rose, the vanquished baseball star, a spot in baseball’s Hall of Fame.

How good would have Cyrus been had he stuck with baseball? We’ll never know. But what we know for sure is that music fans across the world probably couldn’t care less.
