Who would have thought that the Kiwis (Blackcaps) of New Zealand would be undefeated, confidently occupying the top seat–above Australia, no less? I didn’t.
Who would have thought that South Africa would have only one win in six matches thus far? Not me! (And, as I write this, Proteas are trailing significantly in another match.)
Who would have thought that a team (West Indies) blessed with batting talent of Chris Gayle, Jason Holder, Andre Russell, and the like, would be sitting on their tails, hoping to make it into the top four? How astonishing!
And who would have ever thought that Sri Lanka stood a chance of beating tournament host and favorite, England? But they did!
Those are just a few of the unusual things that have happened in tournament 2019.
What will happen next? We’ll see. Just don’t bet on it.
