Dexter tells the story. But did it really happen?
Creepypastas, or internet horror stories, have been a fascination in pop culture since the release of titles, such as Slenderman and Jeff, The Killer.
But did you know there’s a sports Creepypastas? It’s WWE’s lost episode of ‘In Your House.’
This story is told by Dexter, a college football player at the time. Dexter is a huge WWE fan. Growing up, he’d beg his mom to let him stay up to watch WWE Raw and Smackdown. But in-between classes and commitments to college football, Dexter wasn’t able to keep watching. He watched old WWE DVDs instead–except for one exception.
One day, Dexter walked by a pro wrestling store that was located near the university he was attending. He entered the store and noticed a motherload of WWE-themed material, including an In Your House box set. He grabbed the set, picked up and Eddie Guerro figure, a Monster Energy Drink, slapped cash on the counter, and then went home to watch the DVDs.
It was a decision he’d later regret.
Back at his dorm, Dextor loaded the DVD into his PlayStation 3 and began watching all 28 of the In Your House matches. There was more, too. He found a battle royale and a match against Kane and Mankind, called Armaggedon. Saving the best for last, Dexter chose the battle royale first, which Billy Gunn won. Then he watched the Kane against Mankind match. Kane ended up winning, leaving Dexter to wonder why WWE hadn’t promoted that match. It had never been seen before.
Dexter would soon find out why.
It started with screaming. Then the camera showed Mankind on fire, which was a standard end to an inferno wrestling match. But in this match, it showed Mankind’s skin and muscle burning off. He became barbecued.
Jim Ross rushed over and sprayed Mankind with a fire extinguisher. (Ross denies the story.) Paramedics arrived. The match ended. Dexter learned that the original Mankind died soon after that fateful match, and was replaced by Mick Foley.
Inquisitive about what had happened, Dexter returned to the store where he had bought the DVD set. He asked about the DVD, and the store manager told Dexter that he had purchased it on the black market. Dexter never touched the DVD again.
Yes, this story has everything that a creepypasta should. RIP, original ‘Mankind.’
JimmyTheKeybladeWielder tells the following rendition.
God, was this creepy, but short as well.
