We’ll never know what could have been.
On September 13, 1996, Mike Tyson was duking it out in the right with (con)pre-tender, Bruce Sheldon. Tyson won the fight in just 1.49 minutes.
Rapper Tupac Shakur was in the audience that night. “Did y’ all see that?! 50 punches!” Tupac crowed. “I counted! 50 punches!”
Tyson and Tupac were friends.
Each had problems and, often, the other person was there to help. Tupac visited Tyson when Tyson was jailed for rape. He knew what it was like. Tupac had been convicted for the same offense. And the two were planning to start a youth organization.
It never happened.
Soon after that fight that night, Death Row Records owner, Suge Knight, saw Crips’ member Orlando Anderson. He called him out to Tupac. Tupac and his entourage then beat up Orlando and his entourage. The brawl was caught on security cameras.
Tupac and Knight then went on their way to a local nightclub for a gig–a gig they would never make. A white Cadillac pulled up as a street light turned red. Shots were fired. Tupac, shot in the chest, died that night. He was 25 years of age.
Tyson and Tupac each had their share of troubles. They also shared that night–when Tyson won a boxing match and Tupac was shot dead.
