Squad Reshuffling Needed at Manchester United

What started quite promising for Solksejaer has turned south.

Manchester United coach, Ole Gunnar Solksjaer, is currently under scrutiny from most pundits after securing only one win and a draw in his last five fixtures. Solkjaer was appointed interim manager after his predecessor, Jose Mourinho, was exiled after a series of poor results.

Things got off to a flying start for Solkjaer. He was unbeaten in his first eleven games and also turned a 2-0 deficit against PSG to earn a quarterfinal spot in the Champions League.

But as things stand now, Solkjaers’s United is struggling.

ManU suffered consecutive shutouts to Barca in the Champions League and, then, it was beaten by Everton (via another shutout) and Man City in consecutive Premier League contests.

During the first few matches of Solkjaer’s appointment, Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba witnessed a rise in their form. But three months down the line we have seen that form plummeting. David de Gea’s costly errors in posts have cost the team a lot, too.

The defense has been leaking, the forwards have scored less recently, and the midfield trio of Ander Herrera, Pogba, and either Fred or Matic has been bogus.

The circumstances prompted club legend, Roy Keene, to say “These are the same players that threw Mourinho under the bus, and they will do exactly that to Ole. Leopards don’t change their spots.”

From the way things stand at United, it could be concluded that (just maybe) Mourinho was not the problem and, just maybe, Solksjaer is currently not the problem, either. If that’s the case, then the only answer is that the problem is the overall squad. Squad reshuffling is perhaps what’s needed at United.
