Rap and sports go together like peanut butter and jelly.
The rapper, Nipsey Hussle, was gunned down a few weeks ago in front of a clothing store he owned. Hussle, who was just 33-years-old, produced a Grammy-nominated album, Victory Lap, numerous hip hop and rap songs, and made film appearances. He was into philanthropy, too, as well as commerce through Marathon Clothing.
Viewed as an entertainer by most folks, there’s also an important sports story to tell about him.
Russell was a huge sports fan, too, especially of basketball. He performed at Staples Center during halftime, helped out at Thanksgiving for Russell Westbrook’s foundation, partied with James Harden and Baron Davis, and was a regular at NBA All-Star games.
Russell’s connection to the game is one reason why his name is being inked on basketball shoes. And it’s also why this basketball-loving rapper now has basketball court mural named in his honor.
From where I sit, rap and sports go together like peanut butter and jelly. It’s one reason why Nipsey Hussle will be respected forever in both.
Can’t believe Nip’s legacy is being disrespected. First Kodak Black says he’s gonna jack his widow, now a posthumous criminal investigation? Disrespectful of a man who loved his community. The disrespect of people’s legacies, specifically Nip and Cameron Boyce, has gotta stop. I wrote their articles to spread love and peace, not hate. So stop dissecting Cameron and Nipsey. Shouldn’t even have to address it.
