Young, a high school star, played for three college teams and could have gone pro.
Brett Young is well known for cranking out country music hits like, “Sleep Without You,” “In Case You Didn’t Know,” and “Here Tonight.” Those (and other) songs have brought the 38-year-old country crooner great acclaim.
But what many fans don’t know is that Young was a baseball star before he was a country star.
Brett played for Calvery Chapel High School (in California)–career .405 hitter and 3.46 career pitcher–and led his team to a state championship. After graduating, he got pro offers from The Tampa Bay Rays and The Minnesota Twins.
But instead of signing a pro contract, Young opted for college ball, signing with ‘Ole Miss and, then, playing for two other schools, including Fresno State, where he suffered a career-ending elbow injury.
Yes, fans, before Young was a country star, he excelled on the diamond.
Young was a pitcher on his high school baseball team and led the squad to a CIF championship. He went to Ole Miss on a baseball scholarship in 1999 after turning down the pre-draft selection by both Tampa Bay Devil Rays and Minnesota Twins.
