Couldn’t Leicester City have waited until season’s end before showing Claude Puel the door?
Leicester City Manager, Claude Puel, was sacked a week ago Tuesday. The sack came after the team suffered an embarrassing 4-1 loss at Selhurst Park courtesy of Crystal Palace. It was the last straw it seems.
When Puel succeeded Craig Shakespeare and took over the reins at Leicester, the team were placed third to the bottom in the table. Puel did everything he could to ensure that Leicester City avoided relegation. And they didn’t, finishing 9th.
But nineteen months later, Puel found himself chased out like a dog. Yes, Puel and his men had lost five times in their last six matches, but they are still sitting comfortably in the eleventh spot (with 35 points), trailing Everton by a point
Is that standing so terrible? Couldn’t Leicester City wait until the season was over before showing Puel the door? Instead, they cast away a manager who had performed. For example, he collected 12 out of 12 points against Chelsea, Manchester City, Cardiff City, and Everton during festive.
Brendan Rodgers is now in charge. He reported for duty last Thursday, together with assistant Kolo Toure. Rodgers previously managed Liverpool and Celtic. He missed out on a chance to win a league with Liverpool in 2014, a year when his squad included Philipe Coutinho, Raheem Sterling, and the then in-form, Luiz Suarez.
In Leicester City, Puel’s players might have had the biggest say in his sacking.
Leicester City could have handled this better.
