Wolverhampton is turning heads with unexpected play.
Last Saturday, Wolverhampton Wanderers continued dominating the Premier League’s ‘Big Six,” beating Everton, 3-1, in front of delighted home fans.
Known affectionately as ‘Wolves,’ Wolverhampton took the lead few minutes into the game after Everton conceded a penalty. The opponents equalized it through Andre Gomes’s goal, but that didn’t last long. The Wolves placed two goals at the back of Everton’s goalkeeper to claim three full points at Turf-Moore.
In ordinary years, fans focus primarily on teams at the top and those in the relegation zone, but the midtable is where things look interesting this year. The Wolves are a big reason why. Few thought they’d be where they are currently–in 7th place, nine points behind Arsenal and ten points behind perennial power, Manchester United.
The Wolves have taken the league by storm, the third team in consecutive years to capture the fans fancy. Leicester City came first, followed by Huddersfield. Now it’s the Wolves turn.
And it’s good for British football, too. Beware, Big Boys!
