Wild Card Weekend AKA As ‘Binge-Watching Repeats’

, ,

It was a weekend of ‘must-see TV.’

It was a weekend of repeats. All but one of the Wild Card games matched teams that had played each other during the regular season. I binged watched the action, and suspect that many (if not all of you) did, too.

The first game, Colts v. Texans, was over by the end of the first half.

Houston didn’t play with passion and got trounced in a game that was the only dud of the weekend.

The other games–Seahawks-Cowboys, Ravens-Chargers, and the Eagles-Bears were nail biters.

I found the Ravens-Chargers and Eagles-Bears to be the most compelling games of the weekend. And here’s my take on those two games.

The Chargers (like the Colts) got off to a fast start against the Ravens. By contrast, the Ravens (like the Texans) didn’t get going until late (when it was too late). Don’t get me wrong, Baltimore made an amazing comeback, but it wasn’t enough. The Ravens had to hurry and score, and that situation is prime for making mistakes. That’s what happened, too. LAC stripped the ball out of Lamar Jackson’s hand. Game (and season) over.

The Bears-Eagles may have been the best game of the lot. Early interceptions kept the Eagles out of the end zone twice. But the Bears’ offense was unable to take advantage. Each QB threw a touchdown in the fourth to keep things close, but the Bears missed a two-point conversion which, in the end, cost them dearly.

The Eagles came out triumphant. And wouldn’t it be something if we had a repeat of last year’s Super Bowl, Patriots-Eagles?

No matter what, I’m looking forward to this weekend’s Divisional Games. Stay tuned for my thoughts next week!
