Andrew Luck, I mean. He’s back at the helm, re-energizing the once-forgotten Colts.
Last Sunday the Indianapolis Colts shut out the Dallas Cowboys. It was an event. ‘America’s Team’ hadn’t been zeroed-out in fifteen years.
With the win, Indy is 8-6 and in second place in the NFL’s AFC South.
The team that had trouble winning four games last year is now competing for an AFC Wild Card spot.
Why the turnaround? Plain and simple, it’s Andrew Luck. He’s back at QB.
Luck is excelling. He has completed about 70% of his passes for nearly 4000 yards and 34 TDs. And his passing rating has been consistently good, hitting a high of 142.8 against the Titans in mid-November.
Luck also has a way of boosting his teammates’ performances. Take T.Y. Hilton, for example. With two games to play, Hilton has surpassed all of his receiving stats from last year. Eric Ebron leads the league in TE TD receptions with twelve.
Even though Indy runs a pass-first offense, Marlon Mack has energized the ground game. He gained a season-high 139 years against the ‘Boys. Rushing productivity is a result, in part, of better O-line play. Rookie Quenton Nelson got a Pro Bowl nod, the first time since 1983 that a Colts’ rookie lineman made the squad.
At season’s start (as reported by ESPN) Vegas pegged Indy as a good bet to sit home come playoff time. Not now. Stat-savvy FiveThirtyEight.com gives the Colts a 34% of making the playoffs.
Indy will be hosting the Giants this week and, then, playing the Titans in a return match to close the regular season. Both games are important, and the game against Tennessee (another playoff contender) is critical.
With two to go, do you want to bet against Luck? I don’t!
