Without him, WWE won’t be the same.
WWE wrestler Roman Reigns shocked WWE fans in late October with his decision to relinquish his championship belt. The news carried sadness: Reigns has leukemia.
Reigns, a prolific and much-loved star of the sport, won the hearts of many WWE fans. He burst onto the scene a few years ago as a member of ‘The Shield’ team, which included Seth Rolins and Dean Ambrose.
In announcing his retirement, Reigns said,” My real name is Joe. And I’ve been living with leukemia for 11 years. Unfortunately, it’s back.”
He went on to say that “because the leukemia is back, I cannot fulfill my role. I can’t be that fighting champion and I’m going to have to relinquish the WWE Universal Championship” — the belt he claimed by getting the better of Brock Lesnar.
Reigns’ decision to retire has left many fans at a crossroads–whether to continuing watching and following the sport. I’m in that group.
About a month ago, a Facebook friend wrote: “Wrestling will never be the same without Reigns.” I’m beginning to think he might just be right. What’s there to watch now?
I wonder how many WWE fans feel the same way?
