There’s hope in Jacksonville.
Being here in Jacksonville, I have a special place in my heart for the Jags. I was elated when Doug Marrone did what he should’ve done a week ago: bench Blake Bottles.
I was one of those who said, “Boy, it isn’t just Bortles. Blame the defense, too.” In reality, though, the defense isn’t to blame. Not even a little bit. How can anyone expect a D to play at an elite level when the squad doesn’t get a moment of rest? It was Blake Bortles all along. Period.
His poor play resulted in three and outs, causing the defense to rush right back out before it could catch a breath. Even Jalen and AJ, who usually play at elite performance levels, were visibly tired and getting beaten.
But, on Sunday, as soon as Cody Kessler got into the game to replace Bortles, players started catching the ball. Downs were made. Hell, the defense was even making stops.
For me, that proves who was the issue–Bortels. But, sadly, the hole had been dug so deeply, even a veteran QB couldn’t get the Jags out of it.
Now I feel excited about next week when the Jags go up against the Eagles. Both teams sit at 3-4.
