Griezman isn’t in the same class as Messi and Ronaldo.
Later last month Atletico Madrid and French starman, Antoine Griezman, caused a stir when he remarked: ” I am at the same level as Messi and Ronaldo.”
Yes, Griezman is Atletico Madrid’s star. But he’s definitely not in the same category as Messi and Ronaldo.
Over the last decade, Ronaldo and Messi have won the Ballon d’Or award five times each. Griezman, on the other hand, has never been among the top three nominees. He’s never won the Champions League title, either.
Messi and Ronaldo have banged in 30 goals or more every season over the last decade. Griezman has come nowhere close. And while he does have a World Cup medal–the only medal that isn’t in either Messi’s and Ronaldo’s cabinet–it’s a different story at the club level. Griezman has three medals while Messi’s and Ronaldo’s totals are in the thirties.
So it’s no wonder that ESPN Football analyst, Craig Burley, concluded: ” “He might at the same table as Messi and Ronaldo, but he is not dining with them. He’s serving them.”
The bottom line — Griezman isn’t able to walk his talk.
The reality, I contend, is quite different from what he claims. Yes, Griezman is on the list of the world’s top ten players, but he doesn’t occupy the pinnacle level with Messi and Ronaldo.
Consider this. When kids play soccer on PlayStation, which players do they pick first? Messi and Ronaldo, of course!
