South Africa had the game under control … then lost.
It was going to be a dynamic rugby game–the All Blacks of New Zealand versus the Springboks of South Africa. The highly anticipated match took place in the 50,000 seat Loftus-Versveld Stadium, which was full to capacity.
The All Blacks won, 32-30, with a furious second-half comeback.
The Springboks came out aggressively and took the game to New Zealand, even though the game was tied 6-all at the break. But South Africa surged early in the second half, storming to a 30-13 lead.
When these Test matches began, the Springboks had registered a win against Argentina, followed by back-to-back losses to Argentina, then Australia, in away fixtures. But a turnaround came with back-to-back victories against New Zealand (#1 team at the time) and Australia.
But the streak ended on Saturday.
Now, the victorious All Blacks go on tour, first against Japan and then against England, both in November. The Springboks, on the other hand, face England at Twickenham, on November 3.
