The only questions are how far they will go and how fast they’ll get there.
Yes, it’s happening. Another NBA super team is about to emerge and it’s in the Western Conference again.
LeBron James signed with the Lakers and his gravitational pull is already at work. Within the 24 hours of his signing, the Lakers signed three other notable free agents: JaVale McGee, Lance Stephenson, and Rajon Rondo.
Then there’s Kawhi Leonard. But reportedly the Spurs are asking too much in exchange–Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart, Kyle Kuzma, and two future picks.
With that said, other high-tier players have shown interest in playing alongside LeBron in Los Angeles. The Blazers’ Damian Lillard is one. When asked by a fan about a possible trade to LA, Lillard responded: “I’m typically a happy camper.”
There’s Carmelo Anthony, too. He’ll part ways with OKC and reportedly the Lakers are interested. Jordan Schultz reports that Melo’s friendship with LeBron is a factor: “Source close to Carmelo Anthony says the #Lakers are one of Melo’s preferred destinations, and that he’s high on a chance to finally play with #LeBron. Keep in mind too, that Carmelo owns a house in LA.”
There’s no question that Magic Johnson and the Lakers are off to a good start this off-season. With LeBron and other new players, the Lakers are back in the hunt. The only questions are how far they will go and how fast they’ll get there.
