UNESCO’s Hari Osias Banaag and California Assemblyman Rudy Salas met recently to talk about safeguarding Traditional Sports and Game. Salas, a Democrat, represents the 32nd Assembly District, which incorporates all of Kings County and parts of Kern County.
Mr. Hari explained to Mr. Salas that safeguarding Traditional Sports and Games (TSG) promotes cultural practices, represents opportunities for intercultural and intercommunity exchange, and helps build a sustainable and ethical sport based on cultural practices.
Mr. Hari said that UNESCO has proposed a visionary platform with the formation of an International Festival of Traditional Sports and Games.
Mr. Salas told Mr. Hari that he will do his part to promote Traditional Sports and Games to the California Legislature and the U.S. Federal government.
