Running helps me take on the challenges of the day.
Stress happens. A college student crams before an exam. An athlete gets nervous before a big game. A big job presentation looms.
People have different ways of dealing with stress. For me, it’s running. And it helps in a number of other ways, too.
A person who runs daily–and also eats right–will look in the mirror and see results. Throw in some weight training to tighten and build muscles and you’ll really get into shape.
Running can improve heart health, too. That’s because it strengthens the heart and helps your body pump blood to the heart faster. And running helps your lungs become stronger, too, along with cells, vessels, and capillaries.
But, for me, the best thing is how I feel after a run. I feel better physically. My mood improves. I feel that I’ve accomplished something.
Those feelings start during the cool down period. That’s when I slow down my pace and revert to a walk. My body temperature starts going back to normal. My heart rate slows down. That’s when I begin to feel a great balance of physical fitness and mental stimulation.
A good run prepares me to take on the challenges of the day!
