Luke Falk has what it takes to become New England’s next quarterback.
Rumors are circulating that the New England Patriots will trade up in the upcoming NFL draft. The goal? It’s to select the QB who’ll eventually succeed Tom Brady.
That’s where Luke Falk comes in. Luke Falk?! Yes, Luke Falk, the quarterback from Washington State.
Perhaps that concept seems farfetched now. But it wasn’t an off-the-radar idea just a few months ago when Falk’s name was on the list of the nation’s top college quarterbacks.
When Washington State played USC last September, it was Falk, not Sam Darnold, who was better on the field (340 yards vs. 164 yards). Yes, Darnold, the guy who may end up being the #1 pick in this year’s NFL Draft.
Falk ended up throwing 30 TDs for the year–more than any other PAC-12 QB, including Darnold and fellow LA star, UCLA’s Josh Rosen. And despite being injured for part of the year, Falk threw for 3,595 yards on the season (13 interceptions) with a nearly 70% completion rate.
What makes Falk special is consistency. Consistency, as many analysts and fans know, is important to Pat’s head man, Bill Belichick.
Falk has other things going for him, too. He’s a pinpoint, intermediate passer, just like Tom Brady, and Brady and Falk stand 6’4”. And both QBs struggle with the same weaknesses, including below average mobility and a decided preference to hit only check-down receivers.
But what catapults Falk up the Pats’ list–in my opinion–are the dynamics associated with this year’s draft. Everybody is talking about Darnold, Rosen, Josh Allen, and Baker Mayfield. Falk, on the other hand, has slipped through the cracks. So he, and not the others, is the gem waiting to be found.
I predict Falk will be available to the Pats, probably between selections #43-63.
Let’s see if the Pats pull thy trigger by drafting Luke Falk. I believe he has what it takes to become New England’s next franchise quarterback.
