The U.S. team is primed for a medal sweep in Sydney.
Many of the world’s top park skateboarding athletes will compete this week at the Vans Park Series Oceania Continental Championships. The competition will be held this week in Sydney, Australia
The United States has the best probability of winning the competition but, to do that, U.S. skaters will need to outdo highly skilled international skaters, such as Japan’s Kisa Nakamua (25th in the world) and Brazil’s Yndiara Asp (ranked 32nd).
Five of the top eight pros in the world call the U.S. their home. The most high profile of that group is Santa Monica’s Lizzie Armanto (ranked 8th). Fellow Californian, Brighton Zeuner (ranked 9th), is another notable competitor. Zeuner, who’s ten years Armanto’s junior, represents the exciting future for U.S. women’s skateboarding.
While Armanto and Zeuner are favored, they’re not the only U.S. skaters to watch. In fact, a gold-to-bronze U.S. sweep is possible. That’s because other talented U.S. skaters will compete in Sydney, including Boston’s Nara Vasconcellos (ranked 11th) and Hawaii’s Jordyn Barratt (ranked 12th).
The United States skateboarding team is gearing up for the X Games, which will be held in Minneapolis this summer.
