Fever’s hopes hinge on the performance of three top draft picks.
The Indiana Fever’s WNBA comeback trail was aided with three of the top fifteen picks in last Thursday’s 2018 WNBA Draft. The once perineal playoff team–9-25 last season–now finds itself in a position to improve dramatically.
The Fever’s main issues–buckets, athleticism, and defense–were addressed through draft picks. With the #2 and #8 picks, Indiana picked two tough, energetic, and high-scoring guards–Kelsey Mitchell, the country’s leading scorer out of Ohio State, and Victoria Vivians out of Mississippi State, who can score and defend. Another OSU product, Stephanie Mavunga, was the Fever’s third pick at #14 in the Draft. She’s a solid defender.
The first game of the season is only weeks away–May 19–when the Chicago Sky visit Bankers Life Fieldhouse. That means molding new and veteran talent into a contending team needs to happen quickly.
The potential is there. Barring injury (like last year), the Indiana Fever appears to be a much-improved club.
