Oklahoma Sooners’ point guard, Trae Young, has burst onto the college basketball scene.
Earlier this year Trae Young committed to the University of Oklahoma. He was one of the nation’s top recruits and named Oklahoma’s Player of the Year. In his senior season at Norman North High School Young averaged an incredible 42.6 ppg, 5.8 rpg, and 4.1 apg while shooting 48.9% from the field.
Young’s college career has started out with a bang. Early in the season he dished out 22 assists against Northwestern State and threw in 43 points against Oregon.
“It’s outstanding…. His ability to see, then the skill to finish plays. The fact that he can shoot it well makes people get on him, so he can drive it and kick. He just makes a lot of good plays.” said OU Coach Lon Kruger of Young’s abilities.
Young is currently averaging 30.1 ppg, 9.9 asp, 4.3 rpb and is shotting 45.8% from the field for the 14-2 Sooners.
“Sometimes you wonder, is he even human?” said OU’s Christian James. But Young sees it as a matter of just playing his game. “I … continue to be aggressive…. I try to knock it down every time,” Young said
Young is clearly a front-runner for NCAA POY. He’s also likely to be a first-round pick in the NBA Draft. The only question is whether he’ll go pro this year or next.
