An alternative to soccer and golf is a hybrid of soccer and golf. It’s Footgolf.
Have you ever heard of Footgolf? The game is basically a hybrid of soccer and golf, played on a golf course.
The game, which is played like golf, is played with a soccer ball. The ball is kicked instead of being struck by a club. Scoring comes when the ball enters a 21-inch cup. As with golf, lows scores prevail. The player or team finishing the game with the fewest shots win.
There’s a dress code, too, just as with golf. Footgolfers where a sweater/collar shirt with slacks/khaki shorts. Players wear turf soccer shoes.
A game with similar rules, “Codeball,” has been around since the 1920s. The game caught on internationally. In the 1980s, Michael Jansen and Bas Korsten created its basic rules and also organized the first tournament. Footgolf, as we know it today, was launched in the Netherlands in 2008.
After interest in the game spread, an official body overseeing the sport was established. It’s The Federation for International Footgolf, which was established in 2012.
Although the game has gained popularity, it’s still not covered on TV or treated much in the sports media.
Could Footgolf be recognized one day as an Olympic sport? A professional sport?
Only time will tell.

I hope a lot of people read this. Because, I’m sure the majority of people do not know this. Great article Matthew Paris. Thank you!
