Are Browns Crazy As A Fox?

What appears to be a major screw up by the Browns’ front office may end up to be (as they say in golf) “a good miss.”

In the fuss over the Cleveland Browns botched trade, most everyone is missing a possible explanation. What if the Browns and Sashi Brown, the team’s executive vice president, really never wanted AJ McCarron? If so, a simple remedy would be to mess up the paperwork.

Let’s keep on that conspiracy hat and speculate why messing up could be a wise move.

What if Jim Brown reached out to Hue Jackson and Sashi Brown and told them that getting McCarron would be a terrible move. Why give up two picks for a career back-up–a stop gap QB in the mold of Brian Hoyer, but with a weaker arm?

Perhaps that call didn’t happen. Perhaps the Browns realized that it doesn’t really matter who’s throwing the ball if none of the receivers can catch it.

But I think the most likely explanation is far less extreme. Perhaps the Browns realized they already have their QB of the future in Deshone Kizer. He has raw talent and just needs time to grow. The last eight games have been an opportunity for Browns’ coaches to teach Kizer, develop him, and get him valuable on-field experience.

The front office realized the problem wasn’t QB, but the need to round out this team via off-season improvements. Hue Jackson needs more offensive weapons via the draft, including a workhorse at running back. Josh Gordon’s re-entry–which the Browns should accept with open arms–is a step toward giving this team an actual offense.

As ugly as 0-8 looks and really is, these Browns are closer to a breakout than most people think. With all of its warts, the Browns could be 4-4 right now.

“With all of its warts, the Browns could be 4-4 right now.” I agree 100% but I would say without Hue Jackson, we would be 4-4 with this very roster. We NEED an OC and a HC. The FO is fine and it is the FO who thwarted this STUPID trade proposal, even though it angered Haslams and was pushed by Hue. The front office is the hero here, Hue remains a flaming idiot and the Haslams are out of their mind backing Hue on this asinine trade proposal.
