It has been a crazy NBA off-season so far, with a lot of drama revolving around everyone’s favorite New York team. Come read up on what has been going down at The Garden.
Hi friends. It’s been awhile since I’ve written about the New York Knicks, but I’m feeling like Kyrie Irving–and I’m ready to get going again after a little break. So here is what you may have missed.
Kyrie Irving wants to be a Knick (which is crazy), Jeff Hornacek quickly told everyone after summer league that he will no longer be running the triangle (which is freaking nuts), and Scott Perry has decided that he’s going to run the New York Knicks organization like it’s the top NBA organization; that meant bringing in younger veterans to take a flier on, a veteran point guard the Knicks wanted for years, and not giving away Carmelo Anthony just because he’s pouting (which is just Donald Trump nuts).
Yet with all that being said, it’s actually happening– the New York Knicks are appearing to be a team with some resemblance of a vision. Now let me not create a storm of over excitement here– this year most likely won’t be pretty. Especially considering the chances of Tim Hardaway Jr. being the team’s leading scorer, followed by K.P. and the Michael Beasley (Yes the same K-State Wildcat super scorer), if the Knicks do trade Carmelo Anthony.
The Knicks probably won’t be winning a lot of games going forward. Yet they may be building a solid foundation–with the theme of this team being defense first, building around the defense and having a monsters mentality of being physical when the other team has the ball. This team may not win a ton, but they will be fun to watch, and should be a team full of effort, piss and vinegar if they actually buy into the process.
With the ability to start clearing up some of the contracts that Phil Jackson has burdened them with, and the beautiful factor that the Knicks currently own all their own first round picks and they may acquire more during the season when/if the fire sale occurs–this team may have a bright future, and will have the cap space to keep all their own players going forward.
Now looking forward to training camp (which will not be held at West Point this year) may sound like one last plug, but maybe Phil Jackson actually accomplished something. He wanted to change the culture of the Knicks, and he sure did. He got the top players to come together against him, and from his exit the Knicks may bloom into a beautiful butterfly and spread their wings into another championship at some point in this decade.
Yeah I didn’t fully believe myself typing that one but I tried to throw a little Zen at you to finish up here. Until next time basketball fans, Ciao for now.
