In 2010, he was one of the most dominant pitchers in the Major Leagues. However, in 2017, Ubaldo Jimenez may not even belong in a Major League uniform.
Back in 2014, General Manager Dan Duquette and the Orioles decided to drop a whopping 50 million dollars on pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez, in order to stabilize a young rotation. However, in 2017, many Orioles fans know him as one of the worst signings in team history.
Jimenez was coming off a year in Cleveland in which he posted a 3.30 Era, which is good for a 3rd-4th starter. But since then, things have clearly not worked out, and fans have been left wondering for years why he still is on this team.
Whether it’s been as a starter or a reliever, Jimenez has consistently proved that he does not belong in the big leagues–let alone in the Orioles rotation.
However, things took a turn for the worst last year, as his ERA rose to 5.81 and his record dropped to 8-12. To make matters worse, Jimenez finished the year by giving up the game winning run in the American League Wild Card Game against the Toronto Blue Jays.
This year has been the last straw, as Jimenez is only 1-2 with a 6.89 ERA. He has been wildly inconsistent, and enough is enough–It’s time for Dan Duquette to get Ubaldo a ticket out of town, before he himself is given one. Too many times Duquette has been reluctant to spend money on big names, and the one time he did, it was on a guy who had a loosing track record.
Ubaldo is clearly not a starter in this league, and every Orioles and baseball fan in America can see that. It’s time for the O’s front office to give him his farewell.
