Storyline: Willie Taggart is a very good coach and he knows the West Coast well. I just think that Oregon missed making a call to get “their guy.”
The college football coaching carousel has begun. Jobs that were open are now starting to close.
I agree with some of hires, like Tom Herman (from Houston) to Texas and Matt Rhule (from Temple) to Baylor. But Oregon missed a chance to get a young and rising coach, a man who could eventually win multiple conference and national championships.

That man is Philip John (P.J.) Fleck, head coach, Western Michigan University. Undefeated WMU, I might add.
Fleck, at 36-years-old, would have been perfect fit for Oregon. He’s becoming a brand name because of his success at a school that has infrequently enjoyed the football spotlight.
Fleck has the fire and swagger you need to coach at a place like Oregon. He’s a mini-form of Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh.
Fleck has Western Michigan heading to the AT&T Cotton Bowl. That’s almost a miracle that you can’t do by luck.
Don’t get me wrong. Willie Taggart is a very good coach and he knows the West Coast well. I just think that Oregon missed making the call to get “their guy.”
