We’re four weeks into the season and the Cowboys have lost both Dez Bryant and Tony Romo to injuries. Bryant is day- to-day with a hairline fracture in his knee.

But even when healthy, Bryant has been close to a non-factor with Dak Prescott leading the offense. When Prescott was asked about Bryant’s involvement he replied by saying the reads take him where they take him.

Prescott believers will take this as a good sign. A quarterback should always play that way, never forcing the ball to any one receiver. But I think you never know what you have until it’s gone.

Bryant is a game-changer. Without him, opposing defenses have little respect for the Cowboys vertical passing game. Bryant does a lot more than just make great catches at huge moments. He stretches the field, commanding an extra defender, which opens up short reads.

We’ll see if Prescott can truly command this offense or if he underestimates Bryant’s worth.
