Storyline: This Philadelphia Eagles team is for real. The offense is exceptional and the defense is playing well. Could a playoff run be in the offing?
The Philadelphia Eagles have opened the season 3-0. The three wins were guided by rookie QB Carson Wentz and rookie head coach, Doug Pederson.
Wentz’s solid play is unexpected from any rooking QB in the NFL. He has thrown for seven touchdowns and 769 yards with a completion percentage of 64.7% and ZERO turnovers.
And the 22-year old from North Dakota State has an array of offensive companions. Jordan Matthews is having a great season, having recorded 15 catches for 204 yards and 2 touchdowns. The other Matthews, Ryan, has been a terror on the ground. He has 104 yards on 33 attempts with three touchdowns and a 10:1 carry/touchdown ratio. Zach Ertz, who made a huge impact during Week 1, was injured in the Cleveland game. He’s scheduled to return in Week 5 against Detroit.
To sum it up: this offense is playing unbelievable football!
The Eagles underrated defense is playing well, too, allowing only 27 points in three games. Safety Rodney McLeod and rookie corner, Jalen Mills, lead the team in tackles with 14 each. NFC Defensive Player of the Month, Fletcher Cox, has had nine tackles with three sacks. Safety Malcolm Jenkins, arguably one of the best safeties in the league, has nine tackles with one sack.
It isn’t easy being an Eagles fan. But this year things look to be different. I’m not saying Philadelphia is Super Bowl-bound, but this team could make a playoff run.
It’s finally time for the Eagles to fly!
