Storyline: Terrance West will write a rags to riches story if he gets the nod as Ravens’ starting RB.
NFL training camps have arrived and one of the biggest storylines out of Baltimore has been the emergence of running back Terrance West. If he continues his strong start he should be a Week 1 starter.
A lot of people in the Baltimore area know about how the adversity West has been through. That includes not getting college offers out of high school and, later, having to work at store in Baltimore to support his young son. West walked onto Towson University where he eventually starred and led the Tigers to the 2013 FCS Championship Game in 2013.
West was drafted by the Browns in the 3rd round of the 2014 NFL Draft, but was traded after his rookie year–despite being the Browns’ leading rusher with 673 yards and 4 touchdowns. There were rumblings that the trade was the outcomes of a poor work ethic. But, after a short stint with the Titans, West got his career back on track. He competed for a roster spot and seized the opportunity.
The word out of Owings Mills is that West has come back to camp weighing 215 lbs., which is significantly less than what he has played in the past. The in-shape West has a real shot to start. One competitor, Justin Forsett, is on the being on the wrong side of 30 and is coming off a serious arm injury. He may not return to the form as had two years ago. Other RBs with the Ravens are dealing with their fair share of injury issues, too.
So West looks like the best bet to start at this point–if he continues his strong start in pre-season camp.
