Storyline: The Dallas Cowboys either need to let Tony Romo retire or release him. Romo’s tires are flat-out worn.
There have been a lot of ups and downs over the last few years for the Dallas Cowboys. But one thing has remained a constant–QB Tony Romo. And that needs to change.
One thing you need at QB is availability and stability. Romo has not provided either. Romo dealt with a fractured collarbone that had him on the sidelines for most of last season. A broken collarbone caused him to miss most of 2010, too. His most recent major injury (a fracture to a bone in his back) will cause him to miss at least the first six weeks of this season.
Look, the ‘Boys have a great offensive line, a solid, young running back in Ezikel Elliot, and playmakers at receiver in Dez Bryant and Cole Beasley and Jason Witten at TE. It’s time to activate those players with a new QB–Dak Prescott.
Prescott has shown talent already in pre-season play. The biggest thing he needs to be is a game manager. He has to utilize his weapons, relying on Elliot and that O-line, He has a good arm, but he needs to be careful and not turn over the ball–something that rookies always struggle with. He’s probably in the best situation any rookie could wish for.
If Romo is out for an extended period of time I believe Prescott can lead Dallas to the cusp of the playoffs. Besides, the Cowboys either need to let Tony Romo retire or release him. The tires are flat-out worn on Romo. If he can’t be on the field on the weekly basis he shouldn’t be a starting QB.
Its time for Jerry Jones to put a fresh seed in that spot. Let it grow!
Bottom line: Dallas, its time to say your goodbyes and move on from Tony Romo.
Good analysis Jordan. Has your opinion changed at this point in the season?
At this point, I still do. Romo is iffy with the back injury and Dak has proven he is the real deal!
