Storyline: King James–The Original that is–saw it coming. Written by James. Follow him on Twitter @JamesVanderBlac

I’m finally writing this article because it hasn’t been written, yet it needs to be written. And, yet, somehow it has been written. What am I talking about?

This story, the one you’re reading right now–the one that has peeked your interest–is the one you’ve always known: Chapter 1, Samuel, Verse 17, The Kings James version.

You may be seated. Turn to it. And let us begin.

A champion named Goliath, who was from Gath, came out of the Philistine camp. His height was six cubits and a span. He had a bronze helmet” and “his head and wore a coat of scale armor of bronze weighing five thousand shekels.”

Context…“six cubits and a span”… and King James. David and Goliath, of course, is the story to which I’m referring.

Let that set it in: David and Goliath.

And, no, I’m sorry to say, “six cubits and a span” isn’t comparable to 6’8″. So, if it’s tough for you to picture this scenario, it’s because David is actually the one who is 6’8″.

But let’s talk about Goliath. That’s Right, The story of a Champion–ding, reaping “Bronze”, ringgg, which admittedly glittery, is not golden, but it’s close to golden. Gold just happens to be not as tough…for a Warrior, ahem. And if my bronze stretch was too much for you, yes, let us not forget we are in fact talking about a WARRIOR itself here in Goliath!

Keep your head down, please.

Let us continue, Goliath, with togetherness, is the Warriors. The Warriors are not comprised of singular pieces, but are a formidable and cohesive unit. I could make an argument that, with their togetherness style of basketball, they have proven to be greater in stature than in one man put in front of them.

Any basketball aficionado would tell you the same, although in the last round, two men gave them quite the test. I don’t know if they’d be Sampson. But, then, who would be Delilah? I wouldn’t call either of them, Delilah, not their face, mind you, especially not to Westbrook’s face. Some might say Cain and Abel…. But, anyways, the Warriors.

How’s that for analogy? Through seasonal regularity they have proven the greatest force of all time. (Stay with me now.) In a mere matter of seconds they could shatter your entire hope of battle and war. Alright, let me try it differently: “Whenever the Israelites saw the man, they all fled from him in great fear.”

That could describe the news reporters who cover the Warriors or the Houston Rockets. Again, though, I don’t know for sure. This isn’t written in stone or anything.

And who is this David?

A lone wolf. Young. Wise. Perennially resourceful. Unarmed. You tell me if this quote describes LeBron. Bear in mind, I did not write this: it came from the King James Version, verbatim: “Then he took his staff in his hand, chose five smooth stones from the stream put them in the pouch of his shepherd’s bag and, with his sling in his hand, approached the Philistine.”

It even includes the word, “staff”! How could it be known that the word would be perfect? I don’t believe it. There’s no way! This must be some version of the bible that King James (Cleveland version) wrote himself. Honestly though, the quote took the words right out of my mouth.

Ill break it down for you. But, first, let me say I’m NOT going to call the Cleveland Cavaliers current roster “5 stones and a couple of sticks thrown together” (although I’ve heard a lot of people saying that after Game 2). I will say lately, though, that Kevin Love has been throwing stones, or bricks, or some shit up there at the rim. It has been a struggle!

Really, though, King James did pick his “staff.” The 5 stones–being the 4 who start with ‘LeDavid’–and, another, chosen as head coach.

The only question I care to answer here is this: Is this really the story of David and Goliath? Or is this just another mighty triumph that, which written piece-by-piece and incrementally, built the Story of Goliath? Which will imminently lead to the story of David and Goliath further down the road….

Pretty much all we are waiting to find out here is if all of this actually was leading to something significant. Or is this just falling apart right before our eyes? Not my article, I mean the story–this story–the greatest story ever told … during this postseason.

The truth is we’ll all need to accept that life, much like the Bible, is not packaged how you unknowingly perceive it. But you should pay attention even if you don’t believe — because a story is a story is a story and you can learn from every single story.

Oh, and in case you were wondering, “six cubits and a span” is about 10′ tall, which is the size of the rim. So give or take a couple of inches–given the fact that this story was written a couple thousand years ago–is all there right in front of your face.

And if you think I’m reaching, then you think I’m reaching, but I’m not going to spell out the Bible for you. It’s all in the eye of your perspective.
