Storyline: The Game 7 winner will be the team that plays as a team. Written by Courtney Albanese, Rhode Island
Throughout LeBron James 13 years we have seen him grow into the ultimate athlete he is today.
Having said that, if you look at the last two seasons with the Cavs there’s one stat that sticks out: points per game. If LeBron isn’t able to score 30-40 points then the Cavaliers don’t win–especially against good teams, like the Golden State Warriors.
Let’s consider the last six 6 games.
Game 1 and 2 were played at Oracle Arena in Oakland. LeBron put up 23 points in Game 1 and 19 points in Game 2. The Cavs didn’t pick up a win until Game 3, when LeBron put up 32 points. Game 4 was another loss with James getting 25 points. Then he scored 41 points in both Games 5 and 6–both wins.
What does this say about team play? Shouldn’t others–like Love, Smith, and Irving–be scoring more points? When James is on the floor players seem obliged to feed him the ball.
But a team like the Warriors has multiple threats. Curry isn’t always the answer. The Warriors can win even when he has an off night. The Warriors won two out of three this year when Curry was out of games. That doesn’t happen often with LeBron. He missed six regular season games and the Cavs only won one time.
