Storyline: My pre-season prediction about the Portland Trail Blazers has come true. But media pros didn’t take me seriously. Written by Lynn Buess. (Find Lynn’s blog here.)
As a 50-year practicing professional numerologist, I decided to put my skills to the task of sports blogging focusing on a favorite team, the Portland Trail Blazers. During the 2014-15 season I accurately predicted personnel and game performances. So, before this season, I did an analysis of the entire new team and made my predictions for the coming season.
Just to fill-in background information, the Blazers lost four of five starters from last season due to free agency and trades.
All the local and national NBA writers, TV reporters, and radio voices (along with Las Vegas) were predicting a lottery season with no more than probably 20 to 27 wins.
Using numerological analysis, I took a look at all of the numbers and current numerical trends and penned my thoughts.
Here’s what I wrote:
“If I were to put a figure on the number of wins it would be 47 to 49 with a range of + – 3. That suggests at the best 52 wins, which would be a great surprise to fans and the organization; and a shock to the rest of the league (and better than last year). The downside would be 44 wins, still well beyond the expectations of other prognosticators.
I am picking seven games that will be key barometers for the season. This does not mean they are picked to be winners. Their combined win and loss record will give a clue as to the season progress. The games are 11/8/15 (L), 1/8/16 (L), 1/26/16 (W), 2/25/16 (L), 3/6/16 (L), 3/24/16 (L), and 4/5/16 (W). These will tell a lot about how the season goes. Three are before the All-Star break and four afterward. If they win two or more before the break, that will be a very good sign. Two or three out of the four after the break would also be a good indicator they could come close to the predicted high of 52 wins. Any less suggest a middle of the road performance or below the predicted low of 44 wins. I have anointed this team THE DREAM ORPHANS, since most of them were traded, overlooked or discarded. They dream far beyond anyone else’s expectations. Here is their theme song (sung to the tune of The Beatles “Daytripper”).”
Got a good reason, for winning our games right now.

We are THE DREAM ORPHANS, winning regents, yeah! It took you sooo long to find out, but you’ll find out!

I sent my article to numerous Portland Trail Blazers sports writers, television and radio media, and the Trail Blazers organization. My thinking was they would find it an interesting story and sideline to the season. As the season progressed I would send reminders of my prediction along with current progress.
The results were most disappointing from an organization and community that prides itself in being fan friendly and family oriented. I was completely ignored and not even given the courtesy of a response from any of the dozens of e-mails. Lately there was a veiled reference by one of the broadcasters about anyone predicting 43 wins before the season would have to be crazy or out of their mind. A most incredibly unprofessional series of events.
As of this writing the team has 43 wins with two games to go. Portland could end up with exactly 44 wins (perhaps 45). (I’ll have to consult a numerologist to see if they are going to win that last one!)
What a ride it has been watching the prediction come amazingly, accurately true. What a ride to see these young Blazers do it! I will be posting my playoff predictions and further comments once the seeds have been set and the schedule announced. For now I sit in, truthfully, a somewhat surprised seat myself.
