Storyline: If I was Smoke I’d call Nemechek right now: “Hey kid, do you want an opportunity in my, the #14, car? I think you would be perfect!” Written by Peyton Hook, Galesburg, IL.
Last year was successful for young John Hunter Nemechek driving the #8 SWM-NEMCO Motorsports Chevy. He ran in the Top Ten pretty much every race and looked like a future title contender in the Camping World Truck Series. In 18 races last year Nemechek had a total of 10 Top Tens, 8 Top Fives, and his first career win at Chicagoland.
Because he finished 2nd three times in the last four truck races, John picked up great sponsors: Albertsons and Safeway for the last two races. Nemechek was the hottest driver in the last ten races, leading 61 laps and finishing 12th in points last season.
Rumor has it that Kyle Busch is interested in Nemechek, as is Dale Earnhard Jr., for their respected teams. Imagine Nemechek in a KBM car of JRM car! That would be pretty cool. They both said that they would love Nemechek, but Nemechek would have to bring high-dollar sponsors to drive.
If Nemechek gets to drive the #14 Chevy for legend Tony Stewart while “Smoke” is injured, that move would help Nemechek get a higher fan base and sponsors. Stewart should give Nemechek a shot.
John brings a lot of energy to a team and Stewart-Haas Racing could use a “young gun” right now to compete for owners points. Nemechek is the best option — other than Elliott Sadler or possibly Justin Allgaier. Nemechek is an upcoming talent who could win a Sprint Cup Championship in the future.
His dad, Joe Nemechek, should consider giving Stewart-Haas Racing a call, recommending that they give John a chance. SHR would benefit with a young driver with energy and a good attitude. Plus, Nemechek is a heck of a short- track driver. He’s really good at Martinsville and Bristol, two early tracks on which the Cup guys race in the early season.
If I was Smoke I would call Nemechek right now: “Hey kid, do you want an opportunity in my, the #14, car? I think you would be perfect!” Who knows? Nemechek could eventually drive for Stewart-Haas Racing.
Give John a chance, Smoke!
