Storyline: NHL’s San Jose Sharks have renovated their training facilities and arena locker room to reflect fierce pride in their team.
Celebrating its 25th year, the NHL’s San Jose Sharks have renovated their training facilities and arena locker room to reflect their fierce pride in their team. Advent, a branding design firm based in Nashville, partnered with the team in making the announcement.
The Sharks were the first team to make teal their team’s color. It reflects the Pacific Ocean, just as the name Sharks reflects the seven varieties of sharks that swim in the waters of the Bay Area.
Sharks are relentless, determined, agile, and fearless, and The Shark Tank is what fans have dubbed the SAP Center. So Advent captured that spirit in the redesign of the Ice Training Facility’s locker room, kitchen and lounge area, along with a puck display that spells out “Sharks.” The locker room at the SAP Center’s Arena’s also received an overhaul, designed to energize the team just before it hits the rink.
Using teal and blue, the walls are emblazoned with vivid pictures of the Sharks in action and loaded with motivational mottos, such as “Either you are ALL in…or in the way,” “Grit and Speed” and “ALL who enter the SHARK TANK will be DEVOURED.” The team’s logo, a killer shark, swims across the walls and floors, snapping in two an opponent’s hockey stick in its jaws, representing the aggressive play the Sharks are known for.
Jon Gustafson, VP of Sharks Ice, LLC ,said the renovation of the facilities is vital to attracting the best players in the to play for the Sharks. The place now has a “Wow factor,” he said, explaining that it was time “to map out our history and show all the great stuff we’ve done.”
Since 2000 the Sharks have been to three Western Conference Finals, won the Presidents’ Trophy, and nabbed six Pacific Division Championships. San Jose has been to the postseason 14 times over the past twenty years. Since 2003-04 only one team (Detroit, 779 points) has scored more points than the Sharks (753).
