Storyline: It’s clear the Eagles have a problem. That problem isn’t the players, the front office, or the fans: it’s Chip Kelly. He isn’t producing.
The Philadelphia Eagles are not the team fans thought it would be. While fans have different reasons why things aren’t working out, Chip Kelly is the person most people are blaming.
I agree. Kelly isn’t a good fit for the NFL. He thinks he’s helping, but he’s really hurting.
The main problem with Chip Kelly is arrogance. Kelly thinks he’s smarter than everyone else in the league. He needs to realize that more experienced coaches know what he’s up to. He tries to bring the college game to the NFL, but the NFL isn’t the NCAA. Successful coaches from the NCAA, like Jimmy Johnson and Pete Carroll, adjusted to the league. Kelly is trying to change it.
Chip Kelly has “a plan” only he knows about. He getting rid of all the team’s talent and adding Oregon and USC players instead. Think of the players he has acquired since arriving: Mark Sanchez (USC), Kiko Alonso (Oregon), Nelson Agholor (USC), and Kenjon Barner (Oregon). In total Kelly has brought in eight players from those schools. The team had none last season.
Last season he was working with the team Andy Reid had built. Then he started replacing players. The players Chip Kelly jettisoned include Nick Foles, LeSean McCoy, Jeremy Maclin, Trent Cole, Todd Herremans, Desean Jackson, and Evan Mathis. Those players were huge for this team.
Kelly’s “plan” is going to get him fired.
Chip Kelly ran a fast-paced offense at the University of Oregon. Kelly thought he could do it in the NFL. He had Michael Vick at first, who’s a great QB to run that type of offense. But he dumped Vick for Foles, who’s a lot slower than Vick. After Foles comes Sam Bradford, who isn’t a good fit for a fast-paced offense. And, to top it off, Bradford’s backup is Mark Sanchez, ‘Mr. Butt Fumble,’ himself.
It’s clear that the Eagles have a problem. That problem isn’t the players, the front office, or the fans: it’s Chip Kelly. He isn’t producing. He has way too much power for an inexperienced coach. Bill Belichick has that kind of power, but he earned it. Chip Kelly hasn’t. He isn’t NFL material and doesn’t appear to be Eagles’ material either. Just ask any Eagles fan.
