My College Basketball Top 5

Storyline: Here’s how I see things shaping up in college basketball during early-season play. Written by Aric Anderson, Minnesota

Who is the best team in the nation? It’s probably Michigan State. The Spartans have been constantly questioned by teams late in the second but, when it’s over, MSU wins by 10+ points. That, to me. is a sign of a good team.

Let’s look at my other picks for top-5 teams.

5: Xavier: This team is very aggressive and physical. The undefeated Musketeers have blown out both of their rivals, Dayton and Cincinnati. We all know no matter how good the other team is (and Dayton and Cincinnati are very good), rivalry games are tough.

4: Iowa State: I don’t feel like they should be downgraded, even though there were down by 20 to a talented Iowa team. A star player, Naz Long, is out for the year, but let’s not count out the Cyclones–at least not yet.

3: Oklahoma: The way OU destroyed Nova was unbelievable. Predictions going into the game were pretty even, but the game was anything but. The whole team looks to be great, and the Sooners will be contending with Kansas for the Big 12 title.

2: Kansas: Their roster may be the best out of the Top 5. KU has many familiar names, such as Perry Ellis, who seems to have been in college forever. The Jayhawks only loss was to my #1 team, Michigan State.

1: Michigan State: The Associated Press ranks MSU #1. I agree.
